Somalia expresses its gratitude to the UAE for its steadfast support to the Somali government and people

 The Ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to Somalia, His Excellency Ahmed Juma Al Rumaithi, met with the head of the Somali Disaster Management Agency, Mr. Mahmoud Maalim Abdullahi, and discussed with him the projects implemented by the UAE to support the government and people of Somalia.

The meeting focused on the urgent needs of vulnerable groups affected by El Niño floods, which led to the displacement of thousands of families and the destruction of crops and infrastructure.

The ambassador indicated during the meeting that the UAE will deliver aid to the affected areas before the month of Ramadan and repair dams to reduce the risks of floods that are expected to result from the expected spring rains.

The Ambassador briefed the head of the agency on the progress made in the wells funded by the UAE to provide clean water to communities. He stated that the first phase of the project had been completed, which included drilling 100 wells, and the second phase was being implemented in which 100 wells would be drilled.

For his part, the head of the agency expressed his gratitude to the government of the United Arab Emirates for its steadfast support for the Somali government and the Somali people, and said that the UAE is a true friend and partner of Somalia, and that cooperation between the two countries will enhance Somalia’s steadfastness and development.
