Warnings of increasing flood risks in some parts of the country

The Somali National Disaster Management Agency has issued a warning about the damage expected to be caused by seasonal rains

The Somali National Disaster Management Agency has issued a warning regarding the potential damages and risks that the monsoon rains are expected to cause in different areas of the country.

A statement issued by the agency called on citizens residing in areas where rivers pass to exercise the utmost caution and be prepared to mitigate the risks associated with floods.

On Sunday, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned of flash floods that would affect about 770,000 people. In late 2023, heavy rains and floods (from October to December) displaced 1.6 million people from their homes, according to the United Nations.
