On the 7th and 8th of August, the European Union's Operation Atlanta, together with the Somali Navy's Coast Guard and Administration, conducted training activities.

The training with the Coast Guard Department included visitation, boarding, search and seizure techniques, as well as procedures for identifying and detaining individuals. A statement issued by Operation Atlanta indicated that training with the Coast Guard focused on first aid, firefighting, and advanced pursuit techniques.

The EU operation has been operating off the Somali coast since 2008 and has succeeded in reducing pirate attacks, and efforts are now underway to train the Somali Navy and hand over maritime security on the Somali coast to it.
