Egypt and Somalia conduct military maneuvers

Egypt and Somalia have decided to hold joint military exercises in the Horn of Africa country, security officials told The National on Monday. “The exercise will send a clear message about our firm commitment to cooperation and protection of Somalia,” one of the officials said. “It will mean much more than just war exercises.”

The war games, which are expected to be held this month, will include ground, air and naval forces, according to regional security sources close to Cairo, who declined to reveal the start date, duration or number of participating forces.

News of the military training came less than a week after Egypt began sending troops, weapons and military equipment to Somalia under the provisions of the military cooperation agreement signed last month.
