The Minister of State at the Ministry of Public Works and Housing of the Federal Republic of Somalia, His Excellency Saeed Mohamed Mahmoud, met with the Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities of the Arab Republic of Egypt, Eng. Sherif El-Sherbiny, during his visit to the New Administrative Capital.
During the meeting, the two ministers discussed strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries in the areas of cooperation, benefiting from Egypt's pioneering urban experience, and seeking assistance from Egyptian contracting companies in implementing projects in Somalia, as well as seeking assistance from the relevant authorities to train Somali engineers and workers to implement projects with the highest quality.
His Excellency Saeed Mohamed Mahmoud stressed the strength and solidity of relations between the two countries, praising the Egyptian state’s experience in establishing and developing new cities, most notably the New Administrative Capital and New Alamein, adding: We are currently at the beginning of the construction phase, and we need the support of the Egyptian state in transferring its expertise in the fields of urban development, especially planning for the establishment of new cities, and benefiting from the capabilities of Egyptian contracting companies to implement projects.
It is worth noting that both Somalia and Egypt have enjoyed long-standing historical relations of cooperation and coordination in various fields, since Somalia's independence in 1960, as these relations include multiple aspects such as development, security, and culture.
Recently, relations between Egypt and Somalia have witnessed a remarkable development, as Egypt sent shipments of military aid to Somalia to support the national army and build its capabilities. Egypt also seeks to support stability and development in Somalia by providing humanitarian aid and cooperation in the fields of education, health and infrastructure.
