President Hassan launches the annual conference of the Somali Bankers Association
The President of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, on Sunday launched the annual conference of the Somali Bankers Association, which focuses on investments, infrastructure growth and initiatives to manage the country's financial system.The President lauded the efforts of traders in developing the country and urged them to take responsibility in paying taxes, maintaining regulations and strengthening the state, so as to achieve lasting peace that can lead to business development and foreign investment.
The President also warned against evading the procedures established for paying taxes, noting that this is considered theft and a crime whose perpetrators deserve punishment. He explained that the people are the ones who pay taxes and that merchants are nothing but facilitators, and stated that the taxes will be used for social services and security.
