Somalia participated in the meeting of the five-party group, which includes the United States of America, Britain, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey and Qatar, formed to support Somalia in security affairs. Hussein Maalim, security advisor to the Somali president, indicated that the meeting, which was the seventh, focused on reforming the national army and providing it with the weapons and support it needs.

Moallem added that Somalia confirmed during the meeting that it does not allow Ethiopia to join the new African Union process that will replace the Union Transitional Mission in Somalia “ATMIS” early next year, noting that the countries supporting Somalia in the security field supported this position on the country.

The advisor stated that it was agreed to focus on fighting Al-Shabaab fighters, whom he described as Kharijites, noting that relations between Somalia and Egypt are not linked to the existing crisis between Somalia and Ethiopia. He explained that Somalia concluded a defense agreement with Cairo, indicating that this is its right.
