A high-level meeting in Riyadh between Somalia and the International Monetary Fund to promote economic growth

 Somali government officials and representatives of the International Monetary Fund held a high-level meeting in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, to discuss strategies for promoting economic growth in Somalia and investing in its natural and productive resources.

The Somali delegation, headed by Finance Minister Bihi Iman Aghi, included members from the Office of the President, the Office of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Planning, the Ministry of Petroleum, the Central Bank, the Somali National Bureau of Statistics, and the Office of the Auditor General.

The four-day meeting will assess Somalia's progress since $4.5 billion in debt relief under the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries Initiative in December 2023. Discussions will also address modernizing the financial infrastructure in Somalia and implementing development projects aimed at achieving economic self-sufficiency in the long term.
