Somalia hosts a forum on the role of civil society in combating extremism
Yesterday, Saturday, the Somali Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Dawud Awis Jama, opened a four-day forum in Mogadishu, focusing on strengthening the role of civil society in combating extremism.The forum, organized by the Topsan Center in cooperation with the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCPT-Aswan), brings together experts and stakeholders to discuss strategies for strengthening society’s capacity to resist extremist propaganda.
The initiative aims to empower local communities, religious leaders and civil society organizations to combat the spread of extremist ideologies through awareness and education campaigns. Participants will also discuss ways to enhance social cohesion and ways to eliminate extremism in various parts of the country.
It is worth noting that the Somali government has recently intensified its efforts in combating violent extremism, recognizing the role of civil society as an essential element in preventing extremism and supporting sustainable peace.
