The President of Somaliland returns to Hargeisa after a visit to the UAE that focused on economic development and investment

Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi “Aro” and his accompanying delegation returned to Hargeisa on Thursday after concluding a three-day official visit to the United Arab Emirates, where discussions focused on economic development, investment in natural resources, agriculture and job creation for youth.

During the visit, Aro and his accompanying delegation, which included Somaliland Foreign Minister Abdirahman Tahir Adam, met with senior UAE officials, including the Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister and Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Economy and Employment. The delegation also held meetings with representatives from six UAE government agencies to explore ways of economic cooperation.

Foreign Minister Abdul Rahman Taher Adam said: “We discussed with the UAE leaders economic development, investment in livestock and agriculture, and how the UAE government can invest in our country’s natural resources, including minerals and oil.”

The minister noted that UAE officials expressed their willingness to make significant investments in key sectors of Somaliland's economy. The talks also focused on job creation initiatives to address youth unemployment, a growing problem in the region. The UAE is a long-term economic partner of Somaliland, especially through major investments in infrastructure projects such as the expansion of the Port of Berbera.
