South West State signs an agreement to develop Barawi Port with a Kuwaiti company

 The South West State signed an agreement with the Kuwaiti “Arabic Holding” Company to develop and operate the Barawi Port, in addition to extracting natural materials for a period of up to 25 years. The agreement also includes a 5-year preparation period dedicated to construction and development, in cooperation with the Egyptian “MYD” company.

The total value of the project is $500 million, and it covers an area of ​​200 square kilometers. Initial survey and evaluation work will begin in the coming months. To date, neither the South West State nor the Federal Government of Somalia have issued any official comment on this deal.

The project is expected to have a long-term positive economic impact on several countries in the region, including Ethiopia, South Sudan, northeastern Kenya, Central Africa, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
