The Somali President heads to Türkiye on an official visit to enhance bilateral cooperation
Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud left for Türkiye on an official visit at the invitation of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
During the visit, President Mohamud will hold talks with his Turkish counterpart focusing on enhancing bilateral cooperation, especially in the fields of security and defense, in addition to supporting Somalia’s ongoing efforts to combat Al-Shabaab, according to a statement issued by the Somali presidency.
Somalia and Turkey enjoy a strong strategic partnership that includes many sectors such as security, defence, trade, blue economy, energy and education.
Türkiye is one of the most prominent international supporters of building Somalia's military capabilities, as it provides support in training Somali forces and contributes to counter-terrorism operations.
Recently, Türkiye delivered advanced “Bayraktar Akinci” combat aircraft to Somalia, in implementation of a long-awaited military pledge to strengthen Somalia’s ability to confront Al-Shabaab.
