Ugandan Commander Assesses Military Gains in Somalia's War Against Al-Shabaab

Mogadishu – Ugandan Ground Forces Commander General Kayanja Muhanga recently visited Somalia to assess the situation on the front lines, particularly in the areas of Sebaed and Anole in Lower Shabelle region, which were retaken from Al-Shabaab.

General Muhanga met with Ugandan military officials from the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) and discussed the ongoing conflict with Al-Shabaab. The meeting reviewed the successes achieved in capturing the areas of Sebaed and Anole.

Ugandan forces faced significant challenges in the fighting in these areas, with seven of their soldiers reportedly killed, highlighting the risks faced by forces fighting alongside the Somali National Army to retake territory from Al-Shabaab.

General Muhanga praised the courage and dedication of Ugandan forces, stressing the need to strengthen efforts to stabilize areas liberated from Al-Shabaab.

It is worth noting that Uganda has been actively involved in military operations in Somalia since 2007, playing a crucial role in the war against Al-Shabaab.
