Defense Minister Receives British Ambassador to Somalia
Mogadishu – The Minister of Defense in the Federal Government of Somalia, Ahmed Moalim Faqi, received the British Ambassador to Somalia, Charles Nicholas King, at the Ministry of Defense headquarters in Mogadishu on Wednesday. Their meeting focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the areas of security, counterterrorism, and defense sector reform.
The discussions addressed strengthening the long-standing partnership between Somalia and the United Kingdom, with a particular focus on enhancing joint efforts to combat terrorism and improving Somalia's defense capabilities.
The two sides exchanged views on supporting the ongoing activities of the African Union Support Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM), which plays a critical role in securing liberated areas and consolidating peace.
Minister Faqi expressed his appreciation for the United Kingdom's continued support for stabilization efforts in Somalia, particularly in the areas of military training, security sector reform, and institutional capacity building.
Ambassador King affirmed the United Kingdom's commitment to Somalia's sovereignty, stability, and long-term development, noting continued cooperation in the areas of security, counterterrorism, and defense reform.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to enhance joint initiatives that contribute to achieving sustainable peace, enhancing security, and rebuilding Somali national defense institutions.
