The Ministry of Justice and Constitutional Affairs today welcomed the Federal Parliament's ratification of the country's new constitution, after both houses voted by a majority in favor of adopting the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

In a press release, the Ministry stated that the adoption of the constitution represents a "historic achievement" and concludes a review process that lasted more than 13 years, during which government institutions, regional governments, legal and constitutional experts, and various sectors of Somali society participated.

The Ministry expressed its gratitude to both houses of Parliament, the constitutional committees, the executive bodies, regional governments, and the Somali people for their efforts in completing this important process.

The Ministry also commended the President and Prime Minister for their leadership in expediting and finalizing the Constitution, considering this step a boost to democracy, national unity, and the rule of law.
