Somalia and Oman strengthen cooperation in the fields of livestock exports, fisheries and agriculture
His Excellency Mr. Abdisalam Ali, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Republic of Somalia, met with His Excellency Dr. Saud bin Hamoud bin Ahmed Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources of the Sultanate of Oman, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation in the areas of livestock exports, fisheries, and agriculture.The discussions focused on improving access for Somali livestock to Gulf markets, developing the fisheries sector through joint investment, strengthening cold chains and processing infrastructure, and increasing agricultural productivity through improved irrigation systems, technology transfer, and value chain development.
Minister Abdusalam emphasized Somalia’s strategic location on the Indian Ocean and its potential as a reliable supplier within regional trade corridors, highlighting its extensive coastline, livestock resources, and agricultural capabilities.
Both sides agreed to launch technical consultations and strengthen private sector partnerships, including joint ventures and investment facilitation, to achieve tangible results. They also reaffirmed the Sultanate of Oman’s support for the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Somalia.
