 The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud, chaired the second meeting of the National Consultative Council, which lasted for two days from September 11 to 12, 2022, in the presence of Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Berri, his deputy, Salih Ahmed Jama, President of Jubaland State Ahmed Mohamed Islam, and President of South West State Abdul Aziz Hassan Mohamed (Leftagarin), President of Galmudug State Ahmed Abdi Kari (Gorgor), President of Hirshabeli State Ali Abdullah Hussein (Godlawy), and President of Puntland Saeed Abdullah Deni, who participated via videoconferencing technology.


The meeting focused extensively on accelerating efforts to rescue citizens affected by the drought phenomenon, as well as security issues in the country, and looked at the points that emerged from the June 12, 2022 meeting. At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants in the meeting issued important recommendations where the Council agreed on the following items:


1) After a long period of drought impact, some areas of the country have become in a difficult situation, so the National Consultative Council decided that the government should speed up work to rescue the affected, and all agencies involved in the rescue operation were directed in addition to uniting efforts in order to mitigate the effects of the drought, as The Council calls on the Somali people for full unity. The Council also calls on the Friends of Somalia to redouble their support for drought relief.

2). The council praised the military operations against terrorists in some areas of the country, especially the role of the residents of Hirshabeli, Galmudug and southwestern states.

3) The Council calls on residents of other regions and all different segments of society such as clan elders, scholars, businessmen, youth and women to stand seriously in the war against terrorism led by the Somali National Army and all other armed forces.

4) The Council agreed to expedite and make fruitful talks with the Somaliland administration.

5) The Council strengthens the relationship and cooperation between government institutions at both levels to ensure full confidence.

6) The Council agreed to work to ensure political stability on the basis of trust, unity, and the supremacy of the country's constitution and laws.

7) The Board agreed to hold another meeting to discuss issues of highest priority.
