Egypt Delivers Largest Shipment of Military Aid to Somalia After Lifting Ban
A military cargo ship believed to be from the Egyptian Navy has arrived at Mogadishu port, carrying the largest shipment of heavy artillery and anti-tank weapons to Somalia since the UN lifted its arms embargo in December 2023.The weapons shipment, which included field guns and armoured personnel carriers, was unloaded under heavy security, with the port temporarily closed to commercial traffic to facilitate the transfer and protect the cargo from any danger it might be exposed to.
This military assistance, which comes within the framework of a broader defense agreement between Egypt and Somalia, underscores Cairo’s deep commitment to military engagement in the Horn of Africa region amid rising regional tensions.
