The Somali Minister of Internal Security meets the British Ambassador to enhance security cooperation
Abdullahi Sheikh Ismail (Fartag), Somali Minister of Internal Security, met with the British Ambassador to Somalia, Michael Nithavrianakis, to discuss strengthening security relations between Somalia and the United Kingdom. The meeting, which was held in Mogadishu, focused on strategies to strengthen support for the Somali security apparatus, with the aim of enhancing the stability of the nation.The two officials stressed the importance of cooperative efforts in confronting security threats, including terrorism and financial support for such activities. Minister Furtag expressed his gratitude for the UK’s continued support to the Somali Police Force and the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), especially the Goudre Unit, which has played a pivotal role in local security operations.
Ambassador Nithavrianakis stressed the UK's commitment to the security and stability of Somalia, highlighting the importance of continued cooperation in training, equipment and intelligence sharing. The dialogue also touched on future cooperative initiatives, including strategies to combat terrorist financing, which are of great importance to Somali national security.
