Opening of the sixth session of the Somali Federal Parliament in Mogadishu

 Today, Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud delivered a speech at a joint session of Parliament on the occasion of the opening of the sixth parliamentary session in the capital, Mogadishu. The President's speech addressed several prominent national issues, including security, politics, upcoming elections, and economic developments in the country.

In his speech, President Mohamud focused on the importance of security and stability in the country, noting the progress made in counter-terrorism efforts, especially in clearing Al-Shabaab strongholds in the regions of Puntland and south-central Somalia.

He also stressed the rehabilitation of the Somali air and naval forces, which are now capable of defending Somali airspace and waters and combating illegal fishing. Regarding the economy, the President revealed a plan to establish the first satellite launch center in Somalia during the current year, an achievement he described as an important step for the Horn of Africa region.

The President also touched on plans to move to a “one person, one vote” system, which will give Somali citizens the opportunity to directly choose their leaders in the upcoming elections.
