Mogadishu – The Verification and Approval Committee of the Northeastern State Parliament on Sunday released the official list of members of the new state parliament, ending weeks of political wrangling between clans and politicians.
The new legislative assembly consists of 83 members, making the Northeastern Somali Regional Parliament one of the largest regional parliaments in the country.
According to the committee, seats are distributed among the Sool region (30 members), Sanaag region (37 members), and Buhudle town in the Tagdheer region (16 members).
The majority of the appointees are young, newcomers to the political scene, and the list also includes a number of well-known social media influencers.
The members of parliament were sworn in on the same day. MPs will elect an interim speaker from among their ranks to oversee the parliament's work until a permanent speaker is elected.
