Barcelona player Fermín López ended speculation about his future by informing the Catalan club of his decision to move to Chelsea, hours before the end of the summer transfer window.
Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported on Monday that Fermín informed Barcelona's management that he had decided to stay with the club, despite the temptations of Chelsea.
Chelsea made an offer to sign the Spanish star during the current summer transfer window.
Mundo Deportivo reported that Barcelona was not interested in a transfer deal for Fermin because he did not ask to leave.
The newspaper pointed out that Barcelona did not respond to the Blues' offer, which amounted to 40 million euros plus bonuses linked to goals. The Blaugrana considered this offer to be far from Fermín's true market value, especially since the player was not for sale and had not requested a transfer.
Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, has stated on more than one occasion that he is seeking to maintain the outstanding players within the squad.
Chelsea's interest has also prompted Firmino to reconsider his position at the Catalan club, especially given the competition for his preferred position as a playmaker behind the striker, such as Dani Olmo.
Fermin's opportunities to play on the left wing have also diminished this season following the arrival of Rashford.
Although Fermin knew Chelsea's offer would give him a key role and a higher salary than he currently receives at Barcelona, he rejected the offer and decided to remain with Barcelona until his contract expires in 2029.
