Egypt and the United States discuss the situation in Somalia and security in the Horn of Africa.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel-Aty discussed the situation in Somalia and security in the Horn of Africa during a phone call on Thursday.According to statements from both sides, the talks focused on maintaining stability in the Horn of Africa, with Abdel-Aty emphasizing the importance of preserving the unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity of Somalia and Eritrea.
Abdel-Aty reiterated Cairo's rejection of any recognition of Somaliland, describing such recognition as a violation of international law and a threat to Somalia's sovereignty.
He warned that any moves to recognize Somaliland could have dire consequences for stability in the Horn of Africa and the wider Red Sea region, which is a strategically vital maritime corridor.
