 President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud officially signed the new Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia today, which is considered the cornerstone for building state institutions and the legal system in the country, following its ratification by both houses of the Somali Federal Parliament.

In his remarks to the media during the signing ceremony at the Presidential Palace, President Hassan Sheikh Mahmoud explained that the government will begin implementing the new constitution starting today, noting that it will form the basis for strengthening state institutions, protecting citizens' rights, and developing the democratic system in the country.

He said, “Today we conclude the long journey of revising the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Somalia, which has long been a provisional constitution, and which was recently ratified by the Federal Parliament. God willing, starting today, we will begin implementing its provisions.”

The President was accompanied at the signing ceremony for the implementation of the new constitution by the Speaker of the House of the People, Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur, the Speaker of the Senate, Senator Abdi Hashi Abdullahi, and the heads of the constitutional review committees.
