Somalia and the UAE signed, on Wednesday, a military and security cooperation agreement to combat terrorism, in response to the desire of both parties to cooperate in what serves the interests of the two countries and their peoples.
This came during the reception of the Minister of State for Defense Affairs in the UAE, Mohammed bin Ahmed Al Bowardi, to the Somali Minister of Defense, Abdul Qadir Mohamed Nour, at the ministry's headquarters in the UAE capital, Abu Dhabi.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed relations of cooperation and joint coordination between the two countries in the defense and military field and ways of developing them in order to achieve common interests, in addition to reviewing a number of regional and international issues of common concern and exchanging views on them.
The signing of the agreement comes in their commitment to the principles of equality and sovereignty, and in response to the desire of the two parties for mutual cooperation to serve the interests of the two countries and their peoples, and an affirmation of the importance that the two parties attach to maintaining security, peace and stability in Somalia.
It is also consistent with international agreements, norms, principles, and decisions of international law in the field of combating terrorism and security cooperation, and aims to “strengthen military efforts and cooperation to combat terrorism.”
